Two parts. One total stake.

An each-way stake has a win part and a place part. Entering £10 per part means £20 is staked in total. In this model, a win returns both parts; a place-only result returns only the place part.

Win returnstake per part × (1 + fractional odds)Place returnstake per part × (1 + fractional odds × place fraction)

A worked example

At £10 per part, 8/1 odds and 1/5 place terms, the win part returns £90 and the place part returns £26. If both parts win, the total return is £116. Subtract the £20 total stake to get £96 net profit.

If the selection only places, £26 is returned and the net profit is £6. If it does not place, the return is £0 and the net loss is £20.

Each part is rounded to the nearest penny, with half pennies rounded up, before the returned parts are added. An operator may use a different settlement or rounding policy.

Sources & scope

The ordinary each-way split is described in Sky Bet’s explanation of each-way bets. Our mathematical model and rounding policy are documented in our methodology.

A few useful distinctions.

Is the stake included in the return?

Yes. Total return includes any stake returned. Net profit or loss is total return minus the full amount staked.

Does a placed result always make a profit?

No. The place return can be lower than the combined stake on both parts. The calculator shows a net loss when that happens.

What if the bet has a deduction or special terms?

This calculator does not apply those adjustments. Check your operator’s terms and the settlement checklist before treating an estimate as an expected payment.

Check adjustments and market rules

Use the dead heat calculator for one winning part, the Rule 4 calculator for a confirmed winnings deduction, or the void selection calculator for an ordinary cash win accumulator. These are separate models, not adjustments silently included in the each-way calculator.

Read the settlement rules directory for postponements, retirements, event periods and place terms. Always resolve the market before calculating its return.
