How the calculation works
return = stake × (paid places ÷ selections tied) × decimal oddsA worked example
A £10 single at 5/1 has decimal odds of 6. With two selections sharing one winning place, £5 of the stake is paid at those odds. The return is £30 and the net profit is £20. The other £5 of stake is lost; it is not refunded.
Why dividing the profit gives the wrong answer
The paid fraction applies to the stake before applying the full decimal price. Dividing only the £50 profit and then adding the full £10 stake would incorrectly give £35. This distinction matters most at short odds, where a winning tie can produce a net loss.
A tie across several places
If three selections share two remaining paid places, the paid fraction is 2/3. Count only the places still available to that tied group. If you are calculating a place part, enter its already-adjusted place odds and its own stake. Calculate the win part separately; this tool does not decide the result of the other part.
