Tennis retirement and walkovers

A player advancing does not, by itself, tell you how every bet settles. A retirement, a walkover and a completed match are different situations.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Walkover, retirement and a completed market are different cases. Identify when play stopped and which part of the match your market covers before applying the operator’s rule.

A completed first set and a match stopped by retirement are separate facts; check the completion rule for each market.

Separate the result from the bet market

The sporting result records who progresses or wins. A settlement also depends on the market’s completion conditions. A match-winner bet, a first-set bet and a total-games bet can refer to different parts of the same match.

RecordWhy it matters
Walkover before the first pointNo played match should be assumed from the bracket alone.
Retirement before a set is completeSome rules use completion of the first set as a condition.
Retirement after a completed setCheck the tournament category and the exact market provision.
A market already decidedIt can be treated differently from an undetermined outcome.

A reference, not a universal rule

Sky Bet’s tennis rules separate retirement before the end of the first set from later retirement, distinguish tournament categories and distinguish match odds from other markets. Its listed early-retirement match-odds treatment is void. The later provisions require the tournament and market to be identified; do not use that early-retirement result for every situation.

Worked example: first set versus match

In a fictional match, Player A wins the first set and retires during the second. The first-set score and the incomplete match are separate facts. To check two receipts, first label one “first-set winner” and the other “match winner”, then apply the completion rule to each. This example deliberately does not invent an operator decision or promise a refund.

Recalculate only after a decision

If an ordinary cash accumulator leg is confirmed void, remove its price by using a multiplier of one. If it is lost, an ordinary win accumulator returns zero. If a result is still pending, preserve that status. A retirement is not a reason to select “void” in the calculator without checking the applicable rule.

What to ask support

Ask for the market name, tournament classification, retirement point and rule used. A useful query describes the sporting facts without sending account credentials or personal documents to a third-party website. Keep private receipts within the operator’s official support channel.
